In the blog, Henry Happened, Motherhood with Style, it provides great ideas about 12 Natural Remedies for Household Pests. In my home, I had scouting ants that became such a nuisance to me. I searched online for resources on using natural and inexpensive home remedies to conquer those ants. I came across multiple sources stating that ants do not like the smells of coffee, lemon and garlic, amongst other things. I decided to give this a shot by collecting the coffee grounds from my French Press in a used sour cream container to store the grounds in my fridge. Low and behold, we spotted an ant trail coming into the foundation of our home. We covered the ant trail with the grounds and it worked. We also sprinkled the coffee grounds in outdoor areas of the home where we spotted ants. Lemon juice has helped along with the spraying of a white vinegar water mixture I’ve made myself. In the article from Henry Happened, it confirmed the benefits of coffee grounds amongst other natural home remedies that are helpful and free of chemicals. I also placed a garlic clove in my snack cabinet and that has also helped. The benefits of spraying a vinegar/water mixture on your countertops are helpful because it removes the ant scents for other ants to not follow the trails. However, please be advised if your countertop is safe to use a vinegar water mixture as not every surface is suitable for that mixture.
If for some reason seeking the natural home remedies is not in your favor but would like to use a spray that is purchased from your local hardware store, I suggest using this one called, Home Defense Max 1 gal. Ready-To-Use Perimeter and Indoor Insect Killer
on the outside perimeter of your home. Spraying the perimeter of your home periodically will control the ant issues at a low cost. Keeping in mind that foods are not left out for ants to seek for their tummies and washing our hands thoroughly after spraying the chemicals and to avoid any eye or mouth contact with the spray.
