I was in the store browsing at women’s clothing and I bumped into a father and a daughter shopping for clothes for his daughter. To my dismay, I was in such awe in hearing how loving he was talking with her. The father was patient, suggestive, and proactive in shopping for clothes with his daughter. I felt that the title “father” was a huge understatement at this point. He was a true Dad. He was patient in following his daughter’s lead in the type of clothes she was looking for, suggestive for the recommendation in finding her size elsewhere if the store did not carry her size and he was proactive in helping her find tops to go with the bottoms. In my mind, all I could say to myself was, “Wow.” It melted my heart as I witnessed the positive and loving relationship in just a short amount of time. It was remarkable to see that a dad and daughter relationship hold so strong.
The daughter was also very responsive to her father’s concerns and suggestions. I felt that this was something worth writing as it triggered a bittersweet moment for myself, while at the same time, I felt that this was worth sharing even though this is not my everyday topic I commonly write about. Sometimes these sweet interactions and relationships we build are so crucial in life and instill such love and dedication that not all children have. Plus, this awesome example of a Dad shopping with his daughter shows love, dedication and support to a child. In this day and age, having those relationships seem far and few.
What are your traditions in your home when it comes to shopping with your child that may seem normal or out of the ordinary to you? What are your mommy-daughter/son relationships and father-daughter/son relationships like?
