Sewing 101: How I Keep My Cutting Mats from Moving

Sewing 101: How I Keep My Cutting Mats from Moving

If you are like me, I love to have all my tools handy so that I can pursue my sewing or quilting projects with ease. As I was using my cutting mat, I lined it up to the edge of my counter top to cut my fabric, my mat continued to shift as I was cutting my fabric and using my T-Square. Every small shift became a big shift and my cutting would not line up to the edge and would not be a straight cut!

A good friend of mine introduced me to using a T-Square and it was beyond awesome. If you do not own a T-Square, purchase one at Aaron Brothers or your local art supply store.

The end result in preventing my cutting mat from moving was a quick purchase of 2” spring clamps at Home Depot or your local hardware store for $2. Each of the clamps were 99 cents and believe me, it was worth the $2!

Happy Sewing and hope these small tips ease your sewing and/or quilting projects.

You simply clamp you cutting mat at either end of the mat in the corner. This will prevent your mat from sliding around while you're cutting your fabric.
